Biography

Philip Hembree joined the Colorado Symphony as 2nd/Assistant Principal Trumpet in July of 2015. Before joining the Colorado Symphony, Philip appeared in guest roles with the Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera.

Philip is also an avid chamb
er musician and specializes in new music. He has worked with several composers to premier new works across the country, with his most recent collaboration being a soundtrack recording to the silent film, “Cinderella” (1922), with composer Karim Al-Zand.

Philip is 
passionate about education and teaches trumpet and orchestral excerpts class at the University of Northern Colorado. He was previously involved in the young children’s division of Rice University’s JUMP! program, taught as a guest lecturer of brass technique for the Houston School for Performing and Visual Arts andserved as the Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Houston Baptist University. 
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Philip holds degrees from Indiana University and Rice University. His primary teachers include John Rommel, Marie Speziale, Barbara Butler, Charlie Geyer and Mark Hughes.

When not playing trumpet, Philip spends his time hiking and traveling with his wife, Melissa. To escape the Southern heat, Philip has visited Colorado every year from an early age to enjoy another one of his favorite hobbies - skiing.
